About
What the site does, where its numbers come from and what it is not.
What the site does
Grams to Cups Calc turns a weight into a kitchen measure and back. You pick an ingredient, type an amount and get the cups and spoons to fill, rounded to measures a kitchen drawer holds. Pages for ounces, tablespoons, millilitres and butter sticks work the same way.
How the numbers are made
A gram-to-cup answer needs the weight of one cup of that ingredient. For each ingredient the site uses one reference weight, taken from a named source: a national food composition database, a measurement standard or a published kitchen weight chart. The source is named under every answer, in “How this is measured”, with the cup standard and, where the source states it, how the cup was filled.
Conversions between weights (grams, ounces, pounds) and between volumes (millilitres, cups, spoons) need no ingredient: they follow the legal definitions of the units and are exact.
A cup of flour or sugar weighs less or more depending on the brand, the variety and how the cup is filled. The weight on the site is a reference value for that ingredient, not the weight of your bag. When it matters, weigh.
Who runs it
The site is made and run by Grams to Cups Calc, and its pages are written under that name. It sells nothing and carries no advertising.
Corrections and contact
If a number looks wrong, write with the page, the amount and what you expected. We check it against its source. A fix goes into the shared data, so every page that uses that number changes with it.
